Hey, i know most of you are into fair trade in a big way, so i wanted to get a discussion going about it.
i know that fair trade produces goods free of child labour and slavery, but not much else. can someone enlighten me on their projects?
also, any information on fair trade stuff would be usefull, as my school speech is on "if you dont support fair-trade, you support slavery" (an idea i got from forum ).
also this thread is a bid to get more of a respose from all of you. it seems we have 3 regular posters on the site. come on guys, we all want the forum to work, right? _________________ ACH!!! Akummin allahut! Ku doseiru! Nien!! De acutun!! Pizza ga suki desu!!! Kotaiiru!! Mien korrka!!! |

wow I have a speech along the same lines
I wasnt really going to start this topic until more people joined but since no one has then I guess its ok, Ive got some questions In need of answering so I guess this is the place.
1. What actions (if any) have you guys done to support it (its ok if you havent)
2. Where is that resource pack?! lots of people at my church have been asking about it and I havent been able to tell them anything new
3. Why is no one else posting?! if your serious about this then share your knowledge with us don't leave us in the dark
Thats all for now _________________ I just lost the game

Hey Guys,
Still in process of sorting a pack as I am still talking to people about it.
Based on the Community/Environment/Fairtrade Discussion at Forum I've thought about it more carefully and worked more solidly on a plan which has led to 4 "actions" which are : Scope/Involve/Assess/Step Up
SCOPE: Find out which Anglican Churches are already involved and what are they doing in regards to fair trade (to scope out where people are at with fairtrade). Also to find out about what Anglican Parishes are Forum people connected to as we need to work with the strength of personal touch.
INVOLVE: Involve those who aren't already involved & encourage those who are
ASSESS: See where people are at after getting involve or for those already involved see how they've been getting on
STEP UP: There's always more we can be doing so how can Parishes step up and make sure they're sticking to Fairtrade principles as much as possible? (Which then leads to other possibilities which are more specific action hence environment & community are more prevalent)
[b]Daniel[/b] Let me know if there is anything that I can help with. Fair trade is one of my major passions. I also work at Trade Aid and am considered a fairtrade geek by many who know me well. Check out TA's website for fairtrade principles, etc. Some good info on there (www.tradeaid.org.nz)
[b]Michael[/b] Apologies, it's coming along slowly. I'm trying to work from a few links, but yet to hear back. Will be sending a letter/message 2 the discussion group sometime soon.
[b]Hamish[/b] What did you mean by: "b4 cabury's went trade aid i boycootd eatin that" Cadbury has become more AUS based & now is replacing cocoa butter with unsustainable Palm Oil... so I'm not sure what you mean as I work for TA and know there's no link with them & Cadbury in regards 2 Choc. Which Trade Aid store are you around btw? There's some cool ones out there. And you're right great place for gifts because of random, unique things there!
If anyone does want to know more about fairtrade check out the TA website www.tradeaid.org.nz or look up FTAANZ (Fair Trade Association of Australia & New Zealand) www.fta.org.nz or even just google it. Sorry for that super long splurge of words... |

yea, hamish, i think you mean "fair-trade" not "trade-aid". TA is a company and a brand. _________________ ACH!!! Akummin allahut! Ku doseiru! Nien!! De acutun!! Pizza ga suki desu!!! Kotaiiru!! Mien korrka!!! |

Kaz have you turned BBcode on? otherwise your messages wont show html's and such, so youll need to change that in your profile or i can do it
The plan so far looks brilliant and im sure when its finished we will have a masterpiece
also there are absoloutely no fair trade products in dannevirke, in any of the supermarkets so only when we go to palmerston can we get them _________________ I just lost the game

Hello again,
Hamish just to let you know Cadbury in NZ is not fair trade. In the UK the Milk Choc over there has become fair trade [UK are at the fore front of fair trade goods - they apparently have super market isles of just fair trade goodness =)] Cadbury in NZ have gone a step back in regards to substituting their Cocoa Butter with Palm Oil which is known to be an unsustainable resource.
That's pretty cool that you've got one close by tho'. I'm at the Petone store which is tiny but it's rather cool - a bit like a treasure chest as we manage to have a lot of stock...
Michael - have just fixed it. Cool, I'll send out a doc shortly and get greater input from the group. That's a bummer that you don't have them. This is why when the plan is up and running you'll be able to source them and possibly become a bit like a fair trade selling shop! |

Hiya,
Fairtrade is constantly tying to get more work places and faith groups to sign up as fairtrade groups. It helps build a profile, and helps them put pressure on cities to become fairtrade cities (which requires a certain percentage of workplaces and whatnot to be fairtrade) .
If you haven't seen them I'm happy to email you the sign up forms and guidelines.
The requirements are actually really easy to meet and it is encouraging for a church to get a certificate acknowledging their commitment.
Can I attach them on here somehow? If not flick me an email and I can send them out to you.

Hey Jolyon,
That'd be cool. I've seen them before and I'm pretty adamant that I've got a few copies lying around. I'm hoping to include them in a resource pack once we get to that stage.
Also it would be good to catch up and fill you in on what actually happened (most of this action was due to one of the open space business discussions) as there's probably a few gaps here and there. There is a bit of information due to the previous posts. Plus I need to knock a few ideas with others. Let me know if you're keen & available.
Cheers, Kaz |

is there a list of which church orginazations/ parishes are already fair trade? it would probably help convince the vestry's of individual churches to become fair trade if they could see who already was... if that makes sense _________________ ACH!!!
